Writing ‘Eho’, the years lucky direction at the temple.

In front of the main temple of Sankouin, Rinzai Zen Buddhist temple in Koganei, calligrapher Hoyu Sakuma wrote ‘Eho’, the year’s lucky direction.
Writing ‘Eho’ at the beginning of the year is a Zen practice of orienting oneself toward clarity, steadiness, and right direction.
Next with a large brush, Hoyū gave form to the zodiac horse through calligraphy, while sumi-e artist Teisetsu Koyama brought the horse to life in ink.
Next some participants tried writing zodiac horse by big brush with Hoyu, or by themselves.
After that we had a great opportunity to eat wrapped ozoni with burdock root — no broth.
It was a dish delicately seasoned with white miso, prepared for imperial princesses.

吉書きっしょ始はじめと席書せきしょのご報告ほうこく
1月2日いちがつふつかの12時じ45分ふん(午うまの刻こく) より三光院さんこういんの本堂ほんどうの前まえで、大筆おおふでで恵方えほうの南南東なんなんとうと、干支えとの馬うまと丙午ひのえうまを書かきました。
その後ご、水墨画家すいぼくがかの小山汀雪こやまていせつさんが馬うまの絵えを描かきました。
それを見学けんがくしていただいた後あとに、小学生しょうがくせいは私わたしと一緒いっしょに筆ふでを持もって『馬うま』を1枚いちまい書き、その後あと1人ひとりでも書かきました。
私わたしの大人おとなの弟子でしと外国人がいこくじんを含ふくむ家族かぞくも、初はじめて大おおきい筆ふででの席書せきしょに挑戦ちょうせんしました。
その後ご、包つつみみ雑煮ぞうにという、宮中きゅうちゅうにおいて、来客者らいきゃくしゃへ汁しるが必要ひつようない雑煮ぞうにのお土産みやげとして発祥はっしょうした、世間せけんに知しられていないお餅もちをいただきました。汁しるのないお雑煮ぞうにを初はじめていただきました。素朴そぼくでおいしかったです。
